‘Same and/or Other? Animals in East Asian History’, an in-person workshop in 2025 hosted at the University of Münster, was CASN’s first in-person event. This workshop posed the overarching question of how humans and animals have been understood as Same and/or Other in a variety of contexts. Were these two binary categories, or were these boundaries more porous than we imagine? The programme also included visits to the Allwetterzoo in Münster and the Westphalian Horse Museum, as well as an online panel.
